Master LÁZARO GALARRAGA! This workshop featuring the songs of CHANGÓ accompanied by batá, and congas (as in bembé). BEMBÉ y GUIRO. Master GALARRAGA is a founding member of EL CONJUNTO NACIONAL FOLKLÓRICO de CUBA and a master of Cuba’s African cultural traditions. GALARRAGA is regarded as one of the world’s greatest lead singers and batá drummers of Cuba’s sacred African traditions. He will teach two Saturdays/month featuring rhythms and songs from a different cultural tradition each month. Classes are held @ PAWS MUSIC 5268 W. Pico Blvd., LA 90019. $25/class. *NOW-JAN 8: Art exhibit: TRANSCULTURAL PILGRIM: THREE DECADES of WORK by JOSÉ BEDIA. “Large-scale figurative paintings 
and drawings and an installation by José Bedia come together in this major retrospective that explores the artist’s spiritual genealogy as it relates to his Cuban-based religion and its central African source, as well as his explorations of the beliefs of indigenous American peoples.” The exhibition opens Sept. 17, 2011 with a members only conversation between Bedia and curators Judith Bettelheim and Janet Catherine Berlo,The exhibit continues through January 8, 2012.
